Very good Chinese bakery, family owned for many generations. Especially like their baked char sui buns. As with most bakeries in the Chicago Chinatown area they only accept cash as payment for their goods. Also helpful to be able to speak some Chinese but not a necessity.

This place is not bad. I admire family business that spans decades. It's hard to keep a Chinese food business open. I look forward to seeing the next gen take over the family business. Portuguese 'dan tot' is pretty goood. Though the breading could be more flaky. It came in a tiny metal cup so don't expect too much I guess. If you want flaky egg tarts, air fry the ones from Costco (haha). I didn't buy the 'dan tot' so not sure if it is worth the price. But like uncle Roger would say, not bad not bad. But like I would normally say, not that great either. I also got the $2 pork baos and chicken cocktail baos. The cocktail baos were as expected. Bread was fluffy and semi sweet. The filling was good. Didn't try the pork baos so not sure how good it was. Would I go back? Is it worth 5 stars? It's hard to say because like most places in Chinatown, they only take cash. No Apple Pay. Am I punishing them? Am I being too harsh? I'm just trying to keep it real. I would say give it a try yourself and you decide! Extra points because staff speaks canto. Letter of Recommendation: B++

A nice bakery with authentic but simple pastries. The options aren't anything exquisite or unique but the ones we tried were good, especially the peanut butter mochi. Prices are pretty cheap which is great, and they are cash only. No sitting area to eat, so you'll have to go somewhere else. There was also a good sized-line both times we went in, but it moves pretty quickly. The place itself is pretty bare-bones except for some cool pictures on the wall.

This is one of the oldest standing bakeries in Chinatown and it's very clear why. Very decent amount of options and pastries to choose from. Cash only but definitely worth every penny. My favorite was definitely the custard bun, you can taste the freshness of each item and they're known to run out on popular days. Apparently there's a restaurant in the back, I've never been but definitely going to try in the future. Must try if visiting Chinatown

My cousin told me to check out Chiu Quon Bakery because their Instagram photos look so delicious. And it did not disappoint because I am STILL Thinking about this bakery's taro coconut jelly and the bao (buns). I didn't realize it was cash only but when I got to the counter and ran out of cash, they did let me Venmo the remainder, whew. We tried the zhong zhi (sticky rice), taro coconut jelly, sponge cake, egg tarts, and the meat and red bean buns from the freezer. There were 15 people in line but it moved pretty quickly. This bakery is in the heart of Chinatown so street parking was a bit tough on a Saturday. My favorite thing I had here was the taro coconut jelly---layers of creamy taro between refreshing coconut jelly. I basically inhaled the jelly within a few minutes because it was so good! I want to come back soon to try everything in their display case soon.

This was the last stop on our personal bakery tour for the day - shout out to Reset with Sasha-Ann Simons for the recommendation! We got the mango mousse cake and the green tea mousse cake. The mango mousse cake was light and absolutely delicious. The green tea cake was a little bitter due to the matcha powder on the top but it was a solid slice. Also it's cash only so keep that in mind!

Very authentic and delicious! The glass is filled with tons of different types and flavors of treats, and they all looked beautiful and delicious. The 4 different treats we tried were all unique and tasty in their own ways. Perfectly sweet and not an overwhelming sugar rush from taking one bite. It is cash only! But they do have an ATM just incase you happen to forget cash. There is a little ledge to eat inside if you are lucky enough to find the space. There was a little line, but the workers are very nice and quick so we didn't have to wait very long at all. Extremely affordable prices. We will definitely be coming back to try some more of their options!

The bbq pork buns here are so good. I came around 11:30 for lunch and ordered some of the buns for my colleagues. They were so fresh, I was impressed. The bun was pillowy-soft and has the texture of chewy and that crisp first bite from breaking that glossy coat on top. The char siu had good flavor without being too sweet or salty. I also tried the egg custard bun and egg tarts. Both were also good. But the bbq pork bun stole the show and was the main feature for the store. It is cash only, so bring cash. Also, I didn't drive, but parking looks hectic, maybe park in the lot a block away?

Chou Quon Bakery offers a unique experience, especially if you prefer cakes that aren't too sweet. Their cakes have a light, airy texture, almost reminiscent of angel food cake, making them a perfect choice for those who enjoy a more subtle sweetness. Being one of the oldest, if not the oldest, bakeries in Old Chinatown, it has a long-standing history and tradition behind it. A fun fact I learned during my visit: the difference between Chinese and Portuguese egg tarts lies in the milk content. Portuguese egg tarts contain more milk, which gives them that signature browned top. Chou Quon's egg tarts are a great reflection of traditional Chinese flavors, and their offerings are worth a try!
